Telling Lime Products – Natural Hydraulic Lime
Telling Lime Products manufacture and are distributors for a range of natural lime mortar products for various applications, together with stabilisation and consolidation grouts, mesh reinforcement and lime paints and finishes. The natural hydraulic lime products replicate the strength, porosity, adhesion, vapour permeability and flexibility of historic mortars.

Unilit mortars conform to European Standard ENV 495-1, NHL 2-3, 5 for natural hydraulic lime mortars. The products are manufactured using a modern day manufacturing process, are guaranteed against failure for 10 years and are warranted against defect under a professional indemnity insurance. Telling also manufacture a range of bonding agents for use with Unilit mortars. Specify one of the Unilit bonding layers in clause 541. Unilit Plaster And Render Information.
The natural hydraulic lime products replicate the strength, porosity, adhesion, vapour permeability and flexibility of historic mortars, ensuring the compatibility of Unilit mortars with the historic fabric and all mineral backgrounds in conservation, restoration and refurbishment work. Where applied in new construction the greater flexibility, extremely low coefficient of thermal movement, and ability to accommodate the masonry expansion in each mortar, allows masonry construction with Unilit mortars and the application of Unilit plasters and Unilit renders without the requirement for expansion joints.

For plaster and render application Unilit can be applied in layers consisting of a bonding layer to optimise the bond to the existing masonry, Telling Brick Mesh clay coated stainless steel lath for timber framed areas, undercoat layers to build up the required thickness and profile and a finishing coat to match the required or existing finish.

Unilit 10 and Unilit 15 bonding layers for unstable substrates, Telling Brick Mesh for reinforcement of the junction of dissimilar backgrounds large voids and over timber framed areas, can be applied where required to produce the required bond to the background.

The range of Unilit Natural Hydraulic Lime mortars includes traditional lime sand mixes ? Unilit 35, Unilit 35M, Telling Fen X Preblend and Unilit Fen X and Sand, which can then be supplemented by the use of Unilit 30 waterproofing and stabilising mortar for damp and salt laden areas and from ground level or below up to 1 meter above ground, Unilit 20 lightweight insulating mortar for thermal improvement and where the thickness or the nature of the substrate requires a lightweight render, and the extensive range of finishes. Unilit 15 bonding layers can also be used to as a preparation to existing plaster and render prior to application of a finishing coat.

The use of a Unilit premixed finish will ensure the suitability of the mix to achieve the required finish, therefore where smooth or fine textured finishes are required the premixed range should be selected. Internal and weatherproof external self or through coloured finishes are available in a range of textures, for smooth and fine textured through to coarse and roughcast finishes. A fully compatible paint system should be used to maintain the high degree of vapour permeability ? Corical Lime Paint.

The use of Unilit mortars for bedding masonry where repairs or alterations to the original background or new extensions are to be undertaken will ensure the compatibility of the new masonry with the existing structure, minimise differential movement between the two areas and maintain the vapour permeability of the substrate. Where new construction is to be undertaken Unilit will allow construction to a considerable scale without the requirement for expansion joints when used as mortar, plaster and render. The initial set of Unilit mortars enables further construction to be undertaken and only requires approximately one day additional setting time compared to cementitious mortars, dependant on site conditions. The natural mineral bond combined with the flexibility, initial set and slow carbonation process enable Unilit mortars to accommodate minor building movement and settlement without cracking. The high vapour permeability of Unilit allows moisture to be evacuated from the background as water vapour, therefore controlling the level of dampness and concentration of salts in the wall. These properties in addition to the low soluble salts content ensure the compatibility of Unilit with all substrates.

Breathable waterproofing and stabilising render – Unilit 30
Correct investigation to establish the cause of damp is essential and wall thickness, temperature, ventilation and heat transmission all control the movement of vapour as well as the structures ability to perform as a dry element. Impervious sealers, decorative coatings and dense cementitious renders can all adversely affect the building performance. The accumulation of excess moisture behind these coatings and subsequent evaporation, through cracks or flaws, lead to the build up of hydroscopic salts deposits. These cause the spalling of the decoration and deterioration of the building fabric. To seek a cure by synthetic over coating or mechanical extraction is to neglect to tackle the cause of initial dampness, and can exacerbate the problem.

Available for application over damp and salt laden backgrounds, above and below ground level, Unilit 30 offers a unique solution to this widespread situation and can be utilised in salts containment applications such as in cellars and against rising damp without the requirement for a damp proof course. This products unique structure ensures optimum stabilisation along with salts control.

Applied internally or externally as a render this product is resistant to salts, impermeable to water liquid but very vapour permeable and will therefore stabilise, reduce and control the level of dampness and the concentration of salts in the wall and withstand the effects of rising damp/capillary action. Unilit 30 achieves these properties by allowing the moisture present in the wall to be continuously evacuated as vapour while keeping the damp in the background away from decorative finishes, and preventing external moisture passing through the render. Unilit bonding, undercoat and finishes mortars where applied, in association with the Unilit 30 will ensure the compatibility with the background, and maintain the overall plaster performance.

Patch repairs to existing render
The existing plaster or render should be cut back to a stable background and surrounding plaster. Following the application of Unilit bonding layers and Telling Brick Mesh where required, the base mortar should be applied to achieve the required thickness. Where a finish is only to be applied to the patch repaired areas, allow sufficient depth for the application of a finishing layer butted up to and level with the existing finish. Alternatively, finishing layers can be applied to both new and existing (using bonding layer) plaster and render areas.

For application over timber framed areas or timber or metal studwork we recommend the use of Telling Brick Mesh to provide a mineral bond in addition to the physical key, application over stainless steel lath and mesh or timber lath can also be undertaken, and Unilit is noted for its success in traditional lath and plaster application and can be used with or without hair reinforcement to repair or replace lime hair plasters.

Unilit 10 Bonding Layer. – Spatterdash keying coat
A bonding layer based on natural hydraulic lime and silica sand designed to function within the Unilit system as a bonding bridge between the weak substrate and the undercoat mortar – Unilit 20, 25, 30, 35, 35M, Telling Fen X Preblend or Unilit Fen-XA.
Unilit 10 is designed for backgrounds unsuitable to guarantee an optimum bonding of the Unilit mortar, such as surfaces with a closed structure (concrete slabs or very old masonry), friable surfaces and substrates completely saturated with water. Applied in open structure the product will not impair the permeability of the wall. The application method also allows application to uneven surfaces prior to dubbing out.

Application: Evenly across background to achieve effective bond or plaster/ render coat to background. Protect adjacent joinery and other surfaces.
Mix Unilit 10 with water – 5 to 7 litres of water to 30 kg of powder. Mix manually or mechanically for 3 to 5 minutes. Unilit 10 should be applied by tyrolean gun or similar on dry or damp substrates. Apply manually or mechanically on a dry or wet substrate to a maximum (nominal) thickness of 1 mm and to not more than 70% of the surface area. Do not apply in temperatures below 5?C or above 40?C. The mortar remains workable for 2 hours and dries in 4 hours. Protection must be provided in conditions of excess heat or drying winds as well as from frost for 48 to 72 hours.

Unilit 15 Bonding Layer.
A range of 3 fine bonding layers based on natural hydraulic lime and appropriate additional aggregates, designed to function within the Unilit system as a bonding bridge between the weak or friable substrate (old lime plastering, reinforced concrete, old masonry, etc.) and the mortar. Substrates of reinforced concrete must be treated with a layer of Unilit 15 before applying finishing mortars Unilit 200, 300 or 400. Unilit 15 can also be used as a preparatory treatment for completely saturated backgrounds and will not impair the permeability of the wall.
Unilit 15/P0 is designed as a fine legalizing filler when old lime renders are removed and prepares the substrate for further treatment.
Unilit 15/P1 is designed as a fine keying or priming coat for the application of Unilit finishing mortars to non Unilit backgrounds – concrete, old lime plasters etc. When used as a bonding or finishing layer it is applied in a 2-4 mm layer by trowel. Unilit 15 P1 lime wash is applied in a slurry layer using a brush, either as a finish or as a preparation for paint application.
Unilit 15/P2 is designed as a keying or priming coat in a maximum layer of 10 mm, for the application of Unilit render undercoat layers (Unilit 20, 25, 30, 35, 35M, Telling Fen X Preblend, or Unilit Fen-XA) where required as above. Unilit 15P2 can also be applied as a levelling layer to existing render surfaces prior to application of Unilit 15P1 and Unilit finishes.

Unilit 20.
A dry, premixed lightweight insulating mortar based on perlites and natural hydraulic lime which is very vapour permeable and has extraction qualities which will promote the drying out of the humidity and moisture in the walls. The perlite, in varying granular sizes, ensures a light mortar with high thermal strength and adhesive properties.
Where applied as an externally render Unilit 20 has the advantage of the insulation being placed on the outside of the wall and therefore not only increasing the insulation of the wall, but also can remove the dew point to outside the wall and prevent cold bridging, the effects of thermal shock and the condensation of water liquid in the wall. Where applied internally, Unilit 20 has the advantage of the insulation being placed in the plaster therefore increasing the insulation of the wall without loss of internal space. The lightweight properties of Unilit 20 (approx. 1/5 of the weight of traditional mortars) enable up to 40mm to be applied in one layer and subsequent layers to be applied without putting excessive strain on the existing structure.
Unilit 20 can be used in both new construction and renovation and forms the insulation layer of the Unilit system, and can be applied wherever thermal insulation is required. An overall application of Unilit 20 ensures the elimination of cold bridging and damage to the structure by thermal shock.

Unilit 20 is designed to be built up in layers of up to 40mm thick, (20mm for first two coats) to the required thickness dependant on the desired insulation value, with a finishing layer of Unilit 40 externally or Unilit 45, 40, 400 internally. A colour finish can be applied with a lime paint – specify in section M60 – Lime wash and lime paint finishes are available from Telling Lime Products. Alternatively a through coloured finish – Unilit 200/300/400 or a Telling Cori polished finish can be applied.
Basements and other areas susceptible to rising damp must be treated with Unilit 30 mortar in place of or prior to application of Unilit 20.
The use of Telling stainless steel brick mesh is recommended where there is a likelihood of structural movement. This mesh is coated with nodules of fired clay (brick) which produces a mineral bond between the render and the mesh to ensure fusion of lime to the natural mineral. Specify in clause 638 and/or 646.

Waterproofing and Stabilising layer – Unilit 30 waterproofing and stabilising layer. (see Unilit 30 clause)
Apply Unilit 30 as the undercoat mortar for plastering and rendering of internal and external walls below ground level, up to approx. 1 meter above ground level and other areas where damp and/or salts are present or expected. Unilit 30 is impermeable to water but very vapour permeable and can be used as an undercoat or as a coarse finishing coat as part of a Unilit mortar system. The mortar can be applied to damp walls of buildings and cellars.
Where high levels of damp and salts are prevalent, e.g. basement walls the minimum total layer thickness of Unilit 30 must be 20 mm, for the minimum waterproofing performance the minimum total layer thickness must be 12 to 15mm.
Unilit 30 can either be applied as a pre treatment prior to applying Unilit 20, or as the first 15 – 20mm render thickness in place of Unilit 20 where greater thickness is required. Where applied in adjacent areas to the same thickness a finishing coat should be applied over both Unilit 20 and Unilit 30 to give a uniform finish.
If a finish or following layers are applied to Unilit 30 after 1 week (or where Unilit 30 has fully dried), a bonding layer of Unilit 15/P1 or 15/ P2 is required.
A colour finish can be applied with a lime paint – specify in section M60 – Lime wash and lime paint finishes are available from Telling Lime Products. Alternatively a through coloured finish – Unilit 200/300/400 or a Telling Cori polished finish can be applied.

Finishing layer – Unilit 40. (see Unilit 40. clause)
A dry, premixed mineral finishing mortar based on hydraulic, naturally pure and selected lime, and completely compatible with the Unilit system. Unilit 40 is a smooth or fine textured weatherproof finish for external use and internal use where high levels of damp and salts are prevalent. Designed for applications where resistance against high impact and atmospheric influences are required and situations where rising damp or capillary action is prevalent, such as damp walls of buildings and cellars. The mortar is water repellent but very vapour permeable, allowing humidity present in the wall to be able to rapidly migrate from the structure.
A colour finish can be applied with a lime paint – specify in section M60 – Lime wash and lime paint finishes are available from Telling Lime Products. Alternatively a through coloured finish – Unilit 200/300/400 or a Telling Cori polished finish can be applied.

Preparation: The substrate must be clean and free of all traces of oil and grease. When the substrate has been treated with an impregnating product (silicones or similar) it is recommended to consult the supplier or manufacturer.

Apply directly to either a dry or damp substrate. If the substrate is too dry, dampen down the surface prior to overcoating. Do not apply in temperatures below 5?C or above 40?C. The mortar remains workable for 2 hours and dries in 24-48 hours. Protect from frost for 48 to 72 hours.
Maximum thickness per layer: 15-20 mm.
Minimum total thickness of layers: 12 – 15mm for minimum waterproof performance, 20 mm for maximum waterproof performance e.g. for excessively damp and salt laden areas, basement walls and areas below ground level.
Undercoats: Premixed natural hydraulic lime mortar.

Fibre reinforcement: Seek advice from Telling. Not required
Thickness (excluding dubbing out): 20 – 40mm maximum layer thickness to required thickness to achieve desired insulation value.
Application: Mix Unilit 20 with clean water – 10 to 12 litres of water to 13 kg of powder depending on the temperature and substrate. Mix mechanically with a paddle whisk or concrete mixer with a minimum capacity of 200 litres, for 3 to 5 minutes.
Apply manually or mechanically to a dry or damp substrate in 2 layers, allowing minimum 7 hours between coats. Do not apply in temperatures below 5?C or above 40?C. The mortar remains workable for 6 hours. Protect from frost for 48 to 72 hours. Do not use mortar below ground level unless applied over Unilit 30.
Allow Unilit 20 to dry for at least 7 days (3 weeks in the winter) before applying finishing coat of Unilit 40 finishing mortar.
Final coat: Premixed natural hydraulic lime finishing mortar. – Unilit 40 for external use.

(Unilit 400:) Through coloured smooth or fine textured internal or external finish. See Unilit 400 clause.
Mix the mortar with clean water – 4.5 to 5.2 5 litres of water to 30 kg of powder depending on the temperature and substrate. Mix manually or mechanically for 3 to 5 minutes.
Apply manually or mechanically to a dry or damp substrate in 2 layers of 2mm (wet on wet).
If the substrate is too dry, dampen down the surface prior to overcoating. Do not apply in temperatures below 5?C or above 40?C. The mortar remains workable for 2 hours and dries in 24-48 hours. Protect from frost for 48 to 72 hours. Do not use mortar below ground level unless applied over Unilit 30.
(Unilit 300:) Through coloured medium textured internal or external finish. See Unilit 300 clause.
Mix the mortar with clean water – 4.5 to 5.25 litres of water to 30 kg of powder depending on the temperature and substrate. Mix manually or mechanically for 3 to 5 minutes.
Apply manually or mechanically to a dry or damp substrate in a 4 – 6mm thick layer by trowel. If the substrate is too dry, dampen down the surface prior to overcoating. Do not apply in temperatures below 5?C or above 40?C. The mortar remains workable for 2 hours and dries in 24-48 hours. Protect from frost for 48 to 72 hours. Unilit 25.
A dry, premixed lightweight mortar based on expanded volcanic mineral deposits of varying granular sizes and natural hydraulic lime which has excellent vapour permeability qualities to promote the migration of moisture and humidity from with the structure. Designed particularly for application onto thermal blockwork, the mortar controls the level of moisture retained within the structure and has superior thermal, mechanical and adhesive properties.
Unilit 25 can be used in both new construction and renovation, both internally and externally, and will prevent the occurrence of mortar joint lines appearing in a render finish.
A colour finish can be applied with a lime paint – specify in section M60 – Lime wash and lime paint finishes are available from Telling Lime Products. Alternatively a through coloured finish – Unilit 200/300/400 or a Telling Cori polished finish can be applied.
Basements and other areas susceptible to rising damp must be treated with Unilit 30 mortar in place of or prior to application of Unilit 20.

Unilit 35M is very vapour permeable and is completely compatible with the Unilit system as an undercoat or as a finishing layer, for internal and external use providing that excessive damp or salt problems are not prevalent. Recommended for the renovation of old buildings.
The product must be decorated with a protective lime based coating to make the system weatherproof.

Apply Unilit 30 as the undercoat mortar for plastering and rendering of internal and external walls below ground level, up to approx. 1 meter above ground level and other areas where damp and/or salts are present or expected. Unilit 30 is impermeable to water but very vapour permeable and can be used as an undercoat or as a coarse finishing coat as part of a Unilit mortar system. The mortar can be applied to damp walls of buildings and cellars.
Where high levels of damp and salts are prevalent, e.g. basement walls the minimum total layer thickness of Unilit 30 must be 20 mm, for the minimum waterproofing performance the minimum total layer thickness must be 12 to 15mm.
Unilit 30 and Unilit 35 are normally applied in adjacent areas to the same thickness with a finishing coat applied over both to give a uniform finish. Unilit FEN-XA Natural Hydraulic Lime. – Natural hydraulic Lime binder.
Unilit FEN-XA is a pure natural hydraulic lime binder designed to be gauged with the correct volume and quality of sand and water to produce a mortar for a variety of applications, including traditional and modern masonry work, re-pointing, backing layers in plasterwork and renders, finishing applications for both renders and lime washes as well as in floor screeds and lime concretes.
Unilit FEN-XA conforms to European Standard ENV 495-1, NHL 2-3, 5 for natural hydraulic lime mortars. It is not permitted to add clinker, cement or any other synthetic binder.
The binder is mixed on site with the selected additives, such as sand and natural pigments, to create a mortar to suit the specific application. The use of sand with an optimum grain size is important (ideally according to the F?ller-curves, with a maximum grain size of 4 mm) but the Unilit FEN-XA binder allows the use of sand which does not exactly meet these theoretical requirements.

A dry, premixed mineral stabilising mortar based on hydraulic, naturally pure and selected lime. Designed particularly for situations where rising damp or capillary action is prevalent, the mortar is characterised by a high plasticity, slow but strong bonding and a low salt content. Unilit 30 is impermeable to water but very vapour permeable and can be used as an undercoat or as a coarse finishing coat as part of a Unilit mortar system. The mortar can be applied to damp walls of buildings and cellars.
Where high levels of damp and salts are prevalent, e.g. basement walls the minimum total undercoat layer thickness of Unilit 30 must be 20 mm, for the minimum waterproofing performance the minimum total undercoat layer thickness must be 12 to 15mm.
Where applied as a finishing coat Unilit 30 is applied by steel trowel a minimum 4 – 6mm thickness and can be sponged or wood floated to the desired coarse, open textured, water repellent finish.

Unilit Natural Hydraulic Lime Finishing Coats to non Unilit backgrounds and existing render.

Unilit 15 Bonding Layer.
A range of 3 fine bonding layers based on natural hydraulic lime and appropriate additional aggregates, designed to function within the Unilit system as a bonding bridge between the weak or friable substrate (old lime plastering, reinforced concrete, old masonry, etc.) and the mortar. Substrates of reinforced concrete must be treated with a layer of Unilit 15 before applying finishing mortars Unilit 200, 300 or 400. Unilit 15 can also be used as a preparatory treatment for completely saturated backgrounds and will not impair the permeability of the wall.
Unilit 15/P0 is designed as a fine legalizing filler when old lime renders are removed and prepares the substrate for further treatment.
Unilit 15/P1 is designed as a fine keying or priming coat for the application of Unilit finishing mortars to non Unilit backgrounds – concrete, old lime plasters etc. When used as a bonding or finishing layer it is applied in a 2-4 mm layer by trowel. Coridecor Start.
It is a natural, white plaster in a paste form, made from mature lime putty, marble powder, silicas and additives selected to enhance adhesion to weak substrates and provide excellent workability. Designed as a bonding medium or levelling plaster for the preparation of internal or external synthetic or weak backgrounds, gypsum boards, mineral or cementitious substrates, etc., prior to the application of lime putty plasters, Corical paints or Coridecor marble lime coatings. It is vapour permeable and heat resistant and can also be used a lime plaster finish suitable for polishing or to receive a mineral paint or for the invisible repair of a wide range of substrates due to its excellent adhesion and ease of application. It can also be used in both restoration and refurbishment either as a preparation for decoration or in repairs to unsatisfactory plaster.

Coridecor Decorlux.
A ready mixed shiny lime plaster designed for interior substrates to create a smooth and luminous appearance and rich in colour. It is a pure mineral consisting of lime putty with a careful selection of natural additives which are matured over an extended period and coloured by the addition of natural pigments.
The optimum background is newly applied lime plaster/render, Unilit 40 or 45 for example (specify in clause M20/330), which can be coated without the use of a primer. Lime plaster absorbs the Decorlux uniformly, creating excellent adhesion and allows its natural vapour permeability and resistance to condensation to be retained.
Gypsum board, timber or any other non-mineral substrates, or substrates that are not flat and smooth, should be coated with a base coat of Coridecor Start (see this section for details).
Cement or composite mortars should be primed with Coridecor Corifondo.

Coridecor Venestuk.
A Venetian stucco finish that replicates the fine art that the master plasterers of the Renaissance and Baroque eras created, particularly in the Venice region of Italy. Modern day production techniques have enabled the unique properties of Stucco Lucido to be enhanced.
Venestuk is produced from mature lime putty, fine quality vegetable extracts, carbons, mineral pigments and carefully selected natural fillers which all combine to make the performance of the paste and its application easier than the original plasters in the past. It is designed for internal application to ceilings and walls to create an ultra smooth, translucent and polished decorative stucco.
The optimum background is newly applied lime plaster/render, Unilit 40 or 45 for example (specify in clause M20/330), where it can be applied without the requirements of a bonding agent. However, preparation of the substrate is required if Venestuk is to be applied over synthetic backgrounds of paint, cement plaster, gypsum or concrete.

A sealer (Plastelux) manufactured from lime, linseed oil and special mineral pigments is available to enhance the colour and depth of the Venestuk stucco, to create a high sheen, enamel appearance. It is resistant to water, washable and stain resistant and can be used in all interior applications including areas where condensation is anticipated, bathrooms, etc. There is no requirement to wax over the Plastelux as its structure makes the finish easy to repair either by overcoating or isolated repair.

The thickness of the layers should not exceed 0.3 to 0.5 mm. Apply the second and third layers before the preceding layer has dried out using a flexible stainless steel trowel in a diagonal pattern to the previous layer to create a random but consistent form. Whilst the material begins to set, trowel with the flexible stainless steel trowel to blend the coats into a uniform decorative form. Do not apply in temperatures below 5?C or above 35?C.

Coristil – Polished Marble Finish

Coristil is a marble finish suitable for internal and external use, which depending on the application method can be finished to a satin or high sheen finish. Coristil is produced form mature lime putty, selected marble powders, special fibres and additives, which make the product extremely adhesive.
The fibres incorporated in the formulation create the optimum reinforced structure to provide resistance to a abrasion, durability and an extended life expectancy even under extreme conditions. Due to its permanence and aesthetic effect Coristil is suitable for use in restoration and refurbishment, satisfying the requirement for natural products in restoration as well as in new construction where its versatility can be fully exploited.
Coristil is vapour permeable and resistant to condensation.
Fine wall covering with a valuable aesthetic appearance, with a smooth, clouded and semi-polished appearance according to the degree of finishing.
The optimum background is newly applied lime plaster/render, Unilit 15 P1, 40 or 45 for example (specify in clause M20/330), that has not been painted, but Coristil can be applied to substrates that have been coated with water based paints such as lime-wash provided the substrate is sound, porous and provides an adequate key. Thorough sanding down or removal of paint of the existing substrate is required where application of Coristil is over surfaces which have been painted several times.
However, preparation of the substrate is required if Coristil is to be applied over synthetic backgrounds of paint, cement plaster, gypsum or concrete. Gypsum board, timber or any other non-mineral substrates, and uneven surfaces, should be coated with a base coat of Coridecor Start (see this section for details).
For crumbly, highly absorbent bases, a Unilit 15 bonding layer as clause 541 or a coat of transparent Corifondo, diluted 100% with water, must be applied prior to application. Cement or composite mortars should also be primed with Unilit 15 or Coridecor Corifondo.

Application of Coristil is by stainless steel trowel, ensuring that the product is spread in an even uniform thickness.. A second coat is applied as soon as the first coat has dried, apply the second coat venly over the surface to take out any irregularities, always working the product with pressure. When the second coat is in the process of drying, go over it again with the remaining material, finishing off small areas to provide a consistent finish which is achieved by firmly trowelling the surface with the edge of the trowel. Finally, polish the surface with the use of a plastic float.

Marmolux – Natural marble finish

Marmolux is a traditional natural marble finish applied since the 16th and 17th centuries in venetian palaces. The material is produced using mature lime putty and is blended with carefully selected powdered marble and vegetable extracts. The smooth polished finish of Marmolux creates an aesthetic appearance to replicate marble stone and its frost resistance makes it suitable for both internal and external use. The porous structure of Marmolux ensures that the product is vapour-permeable and is therefore wholly suited to use both in restoration as well as new construction. The surface has a smooth, shiny and marble-like appearance of high aesthetic quality.
The optimum background is newly applied lime plaster/render, Unilit 40 or 45 for example (specify in clause M20/330), which can be coated without the use of a primer. Lime plaster absorbs the Marmolux uniformly, creating excellent adhesion and allows its natural vapour permeability and resistance to condensation to be retained. Preparation of the substrate is required if Marmolux is to be applied over synthetic backgrounds of previous paint, cement render, gypsum plaster, plasterboard or concrete. Unilit 15P1 as clause 541 should be used as a bonding bridge for concrete and cement, Coridecor Start should be used for gypsum plaster, plasterboard and previous coatings.
Marmolux is supplied in a ready mixed paste form requiring only stirring with a light duty whisk. Backgrounds should be lightly dampened to control suction. Apply in temperatures between 5oC and 35oC.
Application of Marmolux is by stainless steel trowel in two passes. The first layer should not exceed a thickness of max. 0.2 to 0.3 mm. Apply the second coat with a flexible stainless steel trowel, also to a max. thickness of 0.2 to 0.3 mm, before the first coat is completely dry. As the material begins to set it is trowelled with the same tool to blend the two coats into a uniform decorative form that is unique in its beauty. Once the coats are dry, start to polish with a clean stainless steel trowel, to the required appearance (smooth or satin).. For a perfectly smooth surface finish, polish once again with a woollen or cotton cloth to create an attractive sheen, or beeswax can be applied as a protective layer. Corifondo primer coat – A vapour-permeable primer coat designed for unstable and synthetic base surfaces, such as lime or cement based substrates, plasterboard systems, old powdery mortar, synthetic paints and any unstable base. The product will make dusty base surfaces sound and will give the paint or top coats a more uniform effect due to a more even absorption of water.
Standard colour: Milky-white, but can be tinted with Coridecor dyes (Stabilcori) – contact Telling for details.

Preparation: The substrate must be dry, sound, clean and free of all traces of oil and grease. When the substrate has been treated with an impregnating product (silicones or similar) it is recommended to consult the supplier or manufacturer. Remove existing coatings of paint, wallpaper and residues of paste. Lightly dampen backgrounds to control suction.
Prime cement or composite mortar substrates with Unilit 15 P1, see clause 541, or Corifondo primer, diluted 50 to 100% by water, depending on the absorption of the substrate. Do not apply primer in temperatures below 5?C or above 35?C, or in direct sunshine.
Apply base coat of Coridecor Start to Gypsum board, timber or any other non-mineral substrate or substrates that are not flat and smooth, by trowel in 2 passes to a perfectly flat finish, 1-3 mm thick.
Allow primer or base coat to dry for a minimum of 12 hours before overcoating with Marmolux.

Rasocal – Ready mixed smooth lime plaster finish

Rasocal is a traditional lime finish for internal and external use produced using mature lime putty selected, free of impurities, giving excellent workability, ease of application and Heat resistant properties. Rasocal is widely used in repairs and restoration work, including thin coat application over new or existing plasters as a replacement finish or to improve the existing finish. Rasocal is also used as a fine smooth finish for plaster and decoration and for salt-and-pepper effects on fine finish lime plaster.

The ideal surface for the application of Rasocal is new Unilit plaster/render – Unilit 40 or 45 as clause 330, which require no further surface preparation. Preparation of the substrate is required if Rasocal is to be applied over synthetic backgrounds of previous paint, cement render, gypsum plaster, plasterboard or concrete, or over uneven surfaces. Unilit 15P1 as clause 541 should be used as a bonding bridge for concrete, cement, old lime plaster where mineral bond is possible and uneven mineral backgrounds, Coridecor Start should be used for gypsum plaster, plasterboard and previous coatings. Where applied as a primer for Rasocal to flat surfaces, Coridecor Start can be applied in one 0.5mm to 1mm layer, with Rasocal applied onto the fresh Coridecor Start.
