Telling Natural Hydraulic Lime.
Telling manufacture a range of natural lime mortar products for various applications including mortar, plaster, render, screeds and concretes, together with stabilisation and consolidation grouts, mesh reinforcement and lime paints and finishes. The natural hydraulic lime products are manufactured using a modern day manufacturing process which replicates the strength, porosity, adhesion and flexibility of historic mortars.
The products are guaranteed against failure for 10 years and are warranted against defect under a professional indemnity insurance.

Unilit Bonding Layers.
A range of preparation products designed to stabilise the existing surface and provide the optimum bond for following layers of Unilit mortars. For application of hydraulic lime renders and plasters over concrete, or where background surfaces are excessively salt laden, damp or friable, a Unilit 10 or Unilit 15 bonding layer must be applied to ensure optimum bond to the substrate and to provide a key for subsequent layers.

For mortar repairs to stone Unilit can be applied in layers consisting of a bonding layer to optimise the bond to the existing masonry, undercoat layers to build up the required thickness and profile and a finishing coat to match the existing masonry colour and texture.
The range of Unilit Natural Hydraulic Lime mortars includes traditional lime sand mixes – Unilit 35, Unilit 35M, Telling Fen X Preblend and Unilit Fen X and Sand, which can then be supplemented by the use of Unilit 10 and Unilit 15 bonding layers for unstable substrates, Telling Brick Mesh for reinforcement of the junction of dissimilar backgrounds large voids and over timber framed areas, Unilit 30 waterproofing and stabilising mortar for damp and salt laden areas, Unilit 20 lightweight insulating mortar for thermal improvement and where the thickness of plaster or the nature of the substrate requires a lightweight plaster, and the extensive range of finishes.
We recommend where possible a Unilit premixed finish be applied to ensure the suitability of the mix to achieve the required finish. Finishes can be produced using Unilit Fen X and sand mixes however the grading of the sand is critical on the success of the finishing mortar, therefore where smooth or fine textured finishes are required the premixed range should be selected. Internal Unilit 45 and weatherproof external Unilit 40/ 15P1 finishes are available in a range of textures, for smooth and fine textured through to coarse and roughcast finishes. A fully compatible paint system should be used to maintain the high degree of vapour permeability – Corical Lime Paint. Alternatively, Unilit 200 (coarse), 300 (medium) and 400 (fine) through coloured finishes are available in a range of colours.

Unilit 10 Bonding Layer.
A bonding layer based on natural hydraulic lime and silica sand designed to function within the Unilit system as a bonding bridge between the weak substrate and the mortar – Unilit 20, 25, 30 or 35.
Unilit 10 is designed for backgrounds unsuitable to guarantee an optimum bonding of the Unilit mortar, such as surfaces with a closed structure (concrete slabs or very old masonry) and substrates completely saturated with water. Applied in open structure the product will not impair the permeability of the wall.
Colour: Beige.

Tensile strength: 4 N/mm2 after 60 days; 6 N/mm2 after 90 days.
Bonding strength (DIN 18.555): 2 N/mm2.

Application: Unilit 10 should be applied by tyrolean gun or similar on dry or damp substrates. The layer must not exceed 1mm and coverage should not be greater than 70% of the surface area. Unilit 10 requires the addition of 5.2 to 7.5 litres of water per 30kg bag, mechanically mixed for 3 to 5 minutes.

Unilit 15 Bonding Layer.
A range of 3 fine bonding layers based on natural hydraulic lime and appropriate additional aggregates, designed to function within the Unilit system as a bonding bridge between the weak substrate (old lime plastering, reinforced concrete, old masonry, etc.) and the mortar. Substrates of reinforced concrete must be treated with a layer of Unilit 15 before applying finishing mortars Unilit 200, 300, or 400. Unilit 15 can also be used as a preparatory treatment for completely saturated backgrounds and will not impair the permeability of the wall.
Unilit 15/P0 is designed as a fine legalizing filler when old lime renders are removed and prepares the substrate for further treatment.
Unilit 15/P1 is designed as a bonding and/or finishing layer it is applied in a 2-4 mm layer by trowel. Unilit 15 P1 can also be used as lime wash or slurry/primer coat for lime paint and is applied in a slurry layer using a brush.
Unilit 15/P2 is designed as a keying or priming coat in a maximum layer of 10 mm.

Application: Unilit 15 P1 should be applied by steel towel in a 2 – 4mm layer and left with an open texture for the application of following layers. Where a thicker bonding layer is required Unilit 15 P2 can be applied in up to 10mm layers as for P1. Unilit 15 P1 & P2 require only the addition of 4.5 to 5.25 litres of water per 30kg bag mechanically mixed for 2 to 3 minutes.

Unilit 30.
A dry, premixed mineral stabilising mortar based on hydraulic, naturally pure and selected lime. Designed particularly for situations where rising damp or capillary action is prevalent, the mortar is characterised by a high plasticity, slow but strong bonding and a low salt content.
Unilit 30 is impermeable to water but very vapour permeable and can be used as an undercoat or as a coarse finishing coat as part of a Unilit mortar system. The mortar can be applied to damp walls of buildings and cellars.
Where excessive levels of damp and salts are present the minimum total layer thickness of Unilit 30 must be 20 mm.
If a finish is applied to Unilit 30 after 1 week, a bonding layer of Unilit 15/P1 or P2 is required.
Colour: Beige, or coloured with the addition of Unilit Natural Earth Ochre Pigments. Unilit 30 can be applied as a coarse finishing layer. Where a smooth or fine textured finish is required Unilit 40, 15 P1 or 400 are recommended as the finishing coat. For a coloured finishing mortar Unilit 200 coarse, 300 medium, or 400 fine through coloured finishes or Unilit 15 P1 or Unilit 40 with the addition of Natural Earth Ochre pigment can be applied within 2 or 3 days after the application of Unilit 30. Apply directly to either a dry or damp substrate. If the substrate is too dry, dampen down the surface prior to overcoating. Do not apply in temperatures below 5°C or above 40°C. The mortar remains workable for 2 hours and dries in 24-48 hours. Protect from frost for 48 to 72 hours.
Maximum thickness per layer: 15-20 mm.
Minimum total thickness of layers: 20 mm.
Undercoat(s): Use when the total thickness of mortar repair exceeds the limit for the finishing coat thickness recommended by the manufacturer. Build up in layers as necessary, each layer not exceeding the thickness recommended by the manufacturer. Layers should be ruled flat and lightly scratched between coats, with the final undercoat layer left with a wood float open finish to receive the finishing layer.

Unilit 35.
A traditional, dry, premixed mineral undercoat finishing mortar based on hydraulic, naturally pure and selected lime, characterised by a high plasticity, slow but strong bonding and a low salt content.
Unilit 35 is very vapour permeable and is completely compatible with the Unilit system as an undercoat or as a finishing layer, for internal and external use providing that excessive damp or salt problems are not prevalent. Recommended for the renovation of old buildings.
The product must be decorated with a protective lime coating to make the system weatherproof.
Colour: Beige, or coloured with the addition of Unilit Natural Earth Ochre Pigments.
Unilit 35 can be applied as a coarse textured finishing layer. Where a smooth or fine textured finish is required Unilit 40, Unilit 400 or Unilit 15 P1 are recommended as the finishing coat. Unilit 40.
A dry, premixed mineral fine finishing mortar based on hydraulic, naturally pure and selected lime, and completely compatible with the Unilit system. Unilit 40 is applied for smooth or fine textured sponged or wood float finishes. Designed for applications where resistance against high impact and atmospheric influences are required and situations where rising damp or capillary action is prevalent, such as damp walls of buildings and cellars. The mortar is water repellent (weatherproof) but very vapour permeable, allowing humidity present in the wall to be able to rapidly migrate from the structure.
Colour: Beige, or coloured with the addition of Unilit Natural Earth Ochre Pigments.
Where a smooth or fine textured finish is required Unilit 40, Unilit 400 or Unilit 15 P1 are recommended as the finishing coat. A dry, premixed mineral stabilising mortar based on hydraulic, naturally pure and selected lime. Designed particularly for situations where rising damp or capillary action is prevalent, the mortar is characterised by a high plasticity, slow but strong bonding and a low salt content. Unilit 30 is impermeable to water but very vapour permeable and can be used as an undercoat or as a coarse finishing coat as part of a Unilit mortar system. The mortar can be applied to damp walls of buildings and cellars.
Where high levels of damp and salts are prevalent, e.g. basement walls the minimum total undercoat layer thickness of Unilit 30 must be 20 mm, for the minimum waterproofing performance the minimum total undercoat layer thickness must be 12 to 15mm.
